Online Pet Adoption

No pet in this world deserves to die. It seems today that many institutions are putting animals to sleep and not even giving them a chance. We have strong feelings towards those individuals that don't even give their animal a chance and decide to throw them out in an unknown area, neglect them and let them die. You should know that there are businesses out there that try their hardest to give those pets that have been abandoned and tossed around a second chance. Have you ever heard of online pet adoption?

If you are looking for an online pet adoption website then you will be able to find it by going to the search engine of your choice and typing in "online pet adoption". When you type in online pet adoption you can count on coming up with many different pages. Sometimes those good pages that offer online pet adoptions allow you to search by your zip code. Searching by your zip code and the radius of your zip code is going to give you a chance to see what is around you in your area.

Apart from doing a search for your area on the online pet adoption websites a lot of the online pet adoption websites will allow you to do a search for a specific animal such as a reptile, dog, cat, or other. Then some online pet adoption websites let you do a search for a breed within the category. For example take the dog category you can search for a pit bull in your zip code and it will show you all the pit bulls in your area that are available for adoption. You can count on finding a lot of pit bulls at the online pet adoption websites and you should know that these animals are very friendly, caring and loyal.

When it comes to online pet adoption websites you will probably find it sad at just how many animals are on these websites and are fighting for their lives. Many times you see an "expiration" date on an animal and this just isn't right. If you can save an animal and adopt it today then even if it is just one animal at least you can say you helped an animal out by adopting him or her from an online pet adoption site. When it comes to online pet adoption sites it is not hard to adopt an animal at all. Many times the fee is under $100.00. Don't you think an animal's life is worth more than $100.00? That is why we are asking you to go to an online pet adoption site today and adopt a pet, we promise you will be saving that pets life and that pet is going to look at you has his or her hero.

3 Questions For Your New Pet Sitter

How do you know your pet sitter or dog walker is qualified?

Ask these three questions:

  1. If they are a member of either of the two major pet-sitting associations (Pet Sitters International and the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters). Membership in these organizations requires that the person be bonded and insured to protect you, the pet owner, against damages, theft and anything that may happen to your animal while in their care.
  2. References, specifically, references that you are allowed to contact. You are putting your best friend in their care, it's worth the phone call!
  3. A little about their experience; e.g. have they handled emergency vet visits before? How many years have they been doing this? Do they know Canine CPR? And anything else relevant to your animal, such as whether or not they have administered diabetic injections, are they able to carry your animal up steps if necessary, etc.

If you have a pet that requires medication, has a medical condition that requires any special observations or attention (like a seizure disorder, etc..), be sure to talk to that person about the medical needs, and if possible, see if they have had training or experience with similar pets.

Most pet sitters and dog walkers are very forward with what they can accommodate, what they are trained for,  and what they feel comfortable working with. Many dog walkers have dealt with dogs with medical needs before, even if not your exact condition, and will be willing to work with you to safely provide services for your pet. If they have had clients with medical needs before, be sure to get a reference and talk to that person about their experiences.

Asking these 3 questions while interviewing your future pet sitter or dog walker will help ensure a happy, seamless transition for your best friend.

For pets sake! Stop smoking

SMOKERS in North Somerset are being warned of the dangers their habit can have on pets.

Posters and information have been put up in pet shops, veterinary surgeries, kennels and catteries throughout the region by NHS North Somerset to alert people to the problem.

The trust's stop smoking service is hoping pet owners will stub it out in order to stop harming their four-legged friends.

Health improvement specialist Miriam Thornton said: "Many studies show the link between ill-health in domestic pets and second-hand smoke.

"Although we have no statistics on the numbers of pet owners who smoke in North Somerset, anecdotal evidence indicates that once people are aware of the harm that can be caused to domestic pets they will make a firm effort to quit."

With the EasyQuit System™, 96 percent of people don't just learn how to stop smoking, they actually learn how to stop ever wanting to smoke ever again!

That is why more than 19 out of every 20 people who use the EasyQuit System™ to help them quit smoking succeed and become non-smokers!

Airline caters to passengers of the four-legged variety

Pet Airways, the first airline just for pets, is scheduled to start service July 14 out of several airports.

The airline initially will cater to dogs and cats (birds, reptiles, pigs and others are being considered for future expansion). The animals will be individually placed in secured kennels on a Beechcraft 1900 turboprops. Attendants will accompany the flights.

Owners may drop off their pets up to 72 hours before flight time or leave them overnight at the arrival city, at the airline’s Paws Lodges.

Pet Airways will offer flights between BWI Marshall (near Baltimore) and regional airports in the New York, Chicago, Denver and Los Angeles areas.

Introductory fares are $149 each way between all destinations. On airlines that cater to humans, in-cabin fares for pets range from $200 to $300 round trip. Fees for larger animals that must go in cargo holds start at about $300 round trip.

Owner Alysa Binder said she and her husband created the company after they had to ship their Jack Russell terrier, Zoe, in a cargo hold during a cross-country move. According to Department of Transportation statistics, 30 pets died during air transit in 2008.

Preparing Your Pets For Emergencies Makes Sense.

If you are like millions of animal owners nationwide, your pet is an important member of your household. The likelihood that you and your animals will survive an emergency such as a fire or flood, tornado or terrorist attack depends largely on emergency planning done today. Some of the things you can do to prepare for the unexpected, such as assembling an animal emergency supply kit and developing a pet care buddy system, are the same for any emergency. Whether you decide to stay put in an emergency or evacuate to a safer location, you will need to make plans in advance for your pets. Keep in mind that what's best for you is typically what's best for your animals.

If you must evacuate, take your pets with you if possible. However, if you are going to a public shelter, it is important to understand that animals may not be allowed inside. Plan in advance for shelter alternatives that will work for both you and your pets.

Make a back-up emergency plan in case you can't care for your animals yourself. Develop a buddy system with neighbors, friends and relatives to make sure that someone is available to care for or evacuate your pets if you are unable to do so. Be prepared to improvise and use what you have on hand to make it on your own for at least three days, maybe longer.

Ragdoll Cat Secrets

Why is it that some pets seem to have fewer hang-ups than others? There are Ragdoll cats that go about their business using the litter box properly every day, get along with their housemates, and leave your furniture alone. Then there are Ragdoll cats that are prone to litter box mishaps, have fits of aggressive behavior, and sink their claws into every piece of furniture you own on a daily basis.

There is an abundance of general cat information available on the Internet, but very little breed specific information for Ragdoll cats. If you are a Ragdoll cat owner experiencing behavior problems or you just want up-to-date care, feeding, training, and grooming information specific to the Ragdoll cat breed, you're going to want to read every word on this page. I'm going to give you my best Ragdoll cat care tips that I've learned from veterinarians, breeders, and other pet owners just like you.

Pain Drugs for Dogs: Be an Informed Pet Owner

A decade ago, few drugs were available to treat pets in pain at home. Pups were spayed or neutered at the animal hospital, stitched up, and sent home without pain medication. And dogs with painful arthritis limped along without drugs that were safe and effective for long-term use.

Today, a new generation of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) is bringing relief to millions of dogs with joint problems or with pain after surgery.

"NSAIDs are extremely effective for controlling pain and inflammation in dogs," says Stephen F. Sundlof, D.V.M., Ph.D., director of the Food and Drug Administration's Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM). "These are very valuable drugs that help many pets live to a ripe old age."

But like any drugs, NSAIDs carry a risk of side effects, or adverse reactions. Most adverse reactions are mild, but some may be serious, especially if the drugs are not used according to labeled directions. Some reactions result in permanent damage or even death.

"It's important for pet owners to be aware of the risks and benefits of all drugs, including NSAIDs, so that they can make informed decisions about their pets' health care," says Sundlof. "Owners who give their dog NSAIDs need to know the side effects to watch for that indicate their pet needs medical attention."

The most common side effects from NSAIDs include vomiting, loss of appetite, depression, lethargy, and diarrhea. Serious side effects include gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, perforations, kidney damage, and liver problems.

"The side effects of NSAIDs are very well known and very well documented," says Michele Sharkey, D.V.M., in the CVM's Office of New Animal Drug Evaluation. But this information is not always getting to the pet owner, she says. "If the pet owner can recognize a possible reaction, stop the medication, and get veterinary help, it could mean the difference between a good outcome and a disaster."
